Urinating and Drinking a lot

Question
I have a seven year old poodle who has a lot of energy and has been acting the same way for seven years. It's just for the past few months she has been urinating and drinking a lot of water. She still doesn't urinate in the house which is a good thing, but she has to urinate almost every half hour. I am up during the midnight hour taking her out. What could be the cause of this and if possible please tell me how this can be treated.

Answer
One of the possible causes is kidney disease. Another one is Cushing's. The most common is the kidney disease, which is hallmarked by excessive thirst and urination, what we call pu/pd. Poly uria is many urinations and poly dipsia is many thirsts to be exact from the Latin.
Another possible cause is diabetes.

If you have not had her in for a check up in a while now is the time for that. The vet will want to do some blood work on her to check her kidney function levels as well as her blood sugars.

You need to make an appointment as soon as you can.
