Question
QUESTION: my cat (about 16 weeks old) just yesterday went to get her second series of
distemper.  20 mins after we got home she began to meow...but it was more
of like moaing and such..not a meow with her mouth open just
differant...then her back side started to hang low..as if almost she was in
pain or something....she would move over to a rugg we have in the front and
rubb and roll over it making the moaing sounds with her rear end up in the
air..ad tail straight up.. when getting closer to her i notice there is some kind
of liquid coming out of her vagina.. it is  clear and on the thinker side...once
we got home and she was doing this for a awhile i notice that she is licking
herself more and more..and this stuff keeps coming out...when u try to pick
her up she get squrrley  and meows untill she is let down....since the vet visit
she has not used the bathroom or been herself at all...vet visit was at 1 pm
the other day it is now 8 30 am the next day and i was awakend by the sound
of her meowing and moaning just as she was the other night..still nothing in
the litter box...she also cant stay in one place very long.. as tho she has ants
in her pants... she has her rear end reall low when  she walks and every few
steps she moains and raises her butt and with her back leggs claws at the
ground pushing her butt even higher.. please if you have any info ont this it
would be great...i am also  clling the vet later today but that doesnt open till
10..so i am looking for some answers as to what is wrong with my little girl
thanks

ANSWER: Can you tell me where the vet gave her the injection? Many of them use the back legs now because of the risk of fibrosacroma associated with vaccinations.

He may have hit a nerve in her back leg which is burning or twitching.
It's a rare possibility, especially this time of year (it is fall here) but we HAVE seen cats come into heat at 4 months old and they act just like your cat is acting. Especially with the tail in the air and the moaning. Every thing you are describing sounds like a cat in heat. I wouldn't worry too much about it until you see the vet. If you live in the Southern Hemisphere then it's a good chance that she is in heat.

Let me know what the vet says.

QUESTION: this is what i was thinking as well. but i do not understand  the substace
comeing out of her vaginal area or is it normal when a cat is in heat... she
also tends to streach out her back legs alot and roll around and rubb up on
things.. are these also symptoms of  heat...  and why do you think she came
into heat at 4 mounths i thought cats were (mature) or go into heat at 6
mounth..any way..

thank you for your advice... i made her an oppoinment to see the vet
tomarrow morning...is it ok that i wait, my car broke down yesterday after the
vet visit so im getting a ride tomarrow... im pritty sure if she is in heat that it
is oki ...

thanks again mike

Answer
Yes you can wait, but don't let her get outside whatever you do! To get pregnant at this age is very hard on a cat and she WILL get pregnant if let outside even for a half hour.

As I mentioned, it is rare, but not uncommon for a 4 month old cat to come into heat, but more so at this time of the year. Cats, like goats, and lots of other mammals, wait until spring to start to bear young.

The shorter days and fall weather signals a cats system to shut down during the winter months. However maybe with global warming we are having more cats have kittens in the winter as I hear of them being available in Nov. and Dec.- a time that you couldn't find a kitten anywhere in the past!

She will be fine and you can ask the vet about the discharge but it could just be some urine leaking out or fluids from her vagina. That is something I have not seen before so it is wise to ask him about that.
Good luck putting up with her noise for three weeks! It would be a good time to schedule her spay surgery while you are there seeing the vet.

Since cats come in and out of their estrus cycle every three weeks until they are bred, spayed or the time of the year stops them, you will want to get this done sooner than later!
Let me know how she does.
