QuestionI have a 4 year old Golden Retriever who will frequently eat grass when outside in the yard. Is this indicative of a problem?
AnswerAll dogs and cats eat grass now and then. No one really knows the real reason they do it (they won't tell us) so it is assumed it acts as a cleansing agent for the gut (cats frequently vomit afterward) and/or to get some roughage and veggie proteins into their system.
Wolves always eat the bellies of their prey to get the carbs, herbs and grasses they eat.
So once in a while I wouldn't worry about. If she is eating it all the time or has diarrhea or gas or vomiting aside from the grass eating, then I would worry about a problem.
