Cat Paw Problem

Question
My 11 year old cat, Chip is having trouble with his right front paw.  The large pad on the bottom is very dry and cracked.  It doesn't seem to be "padded" anymore, in fact it seems "flat".  The rest of his paws are normal.  There isn't any infection or open wounds, just very dry and cracked.  However, he is limping and when I touch varies areas of the leg and paw the paw-pad is the only area that is tender.  I was wondering if this is something that I can help him with at home or if I should just take him in to be treated.  Thank you for your time.  Sincerely, Chip's mama

Answer
This is something that is beyond my expertise Karmen. This is a very unusual situation. You really need to have a vet look at it soon.
I am sorry I can't be of more help, but I would really like to know what you discover at the vets.
Please let me know if you can.
