Question
Hi, I have two yorkies. Skippy is 2 years old and weighs 8 Ibs and Jack is a year old and weighs 3 lbs. I took Skippy to the vet because he was very itchy and had what looked like a pimple on his forehead. My vet office, who I generally love, has three vets. Dr. B told me it was a bug bite and he was fine. Less than a week later Jack had several bug bits and was also itchy now. They are both on monthly preventative meds so I didn't know why they would be so bitten up and so I brought them back. This time Dr. a looked at them and said it was a staph infection. Gave then each a shot of antibiotics and steroids. A week later I took Jack back because he seemed like he wasn't better but Dr. a thought he was . Two weeks later Jack had new bumps so they gave me more antibiotic. Two weeks after that they both had new bumps so I took them in and got Dr. J. She thought it was ringworm or mange. She put them under some light and I guess Jack lit up like a Christmas tree. My question is, could he have both because now I have bug bites around my ankles. They aren't like regular bites either, the itching is more intense. If they have both with the sulfur dips for 6 weeks get rid of it for them? Is it possible that I got the three bug bites from them? It isn't ringworm but it also doesn't look like the pictures of scabies on-line. What else could the bites be? Also, do you think it would be fair for me to ask for a credit since they misdiagnose it so many times and none of the first two vets looked for ring worm or did a skin scrapping?

Answer
It is possible to have both ringworm and bacterial infection on the skin at the same time.  Many dogs require both antibiotics and antifungals at the same time.  As far as your bug bites, I doubt that you are getting them from the parasites on the dogs, especially if they have been dipped with lym sulfur.
