Question
I am sarting a new salt water setup. I have a 75 gal tank and i have the water in the tank along with the correct amount of salt (i think) with crushed coral about 1" on the bottom. I have a 400 Marinlife Bio Wheel and 1 hamerhead Power pump. I am not going to have coral until next year or so but my question too you is that my water is still a little clody. I ran water over the crushed coral before i put it in the tank and i have had the wter in the tank for approx 5 days so far. You can see the back of the tank but it just has a cloudy tint to it. I have had freesh water fish in this tank for 5 years and the water was clear as can be. What do you think this could be? Thanks a lot for you time.

Answer
Darren,
There is no protein skimmer or any fine particulate filter on the aquarium so you are still seeing free floating dust from the gravel.  Crushed coral gravel can take a very long time to clear in an aquarium if has not been rinsed dust free before install.  You've seen some of the dust settle, but there appears to be more floating.

I recommend getting a protein skimmer on there to help remove those particulates and to help keep your water quality higher in the long run.  We carry the full line of CPR Aquatics protein skimmers.  Feel free to take a look at our site to help you get more information on protein skimmers.

Best of luck with the tank.
