Are my clownfish pregnant?

Question
Hi Elise, I am a relatively new saltwater aquarium owner.  I am coming up on my first month and after numerous tests our pet store says my water is stabilizing fine.  I have 2 ocellaris clownfish, 2 blue-green chromis, 1 blue damsel, 1 coral beauty, 1 skunk cleaner shrimp, 25 small hermit crabs, and 20 turbo snails.  My snails and clownfish are my most recent addition and everything has been going great.  But finally today, 1 of my clownfish has spent nearly the whole entire day underneath 1 of my base rocks besides coming out to eat when I fed them.  I realize this is very early but I thought this abnormality of behavior deserved to be thought about.  Is my clownfish pregnant, if so how should I go about caring for it, and if it were to lay eggs, would any of my other marine life be a threat to the eggs.
Thank you, Alex

Answer
Hi there, That is certainly alot of fish for not even having the tank up a month.. I never recommend adding fish before the tank has cycled which takes 4-6 weeks (sometimes even 8) I assume perhaps the clown is getting used to its environment. I also doubt it would be pregnant that early. I have had 2 ocellaris for 7 months and they are yet to have babies. If you were to try and raise them however, it is a complicated process. There are many books on raising clownfish. You will need to remove the eggs once they lay them and put them in a separate tank which is quite dark. You will need to be prepared to set up another tank and have it ready for if they do have babies. Hope this helps.
