Question
thanks for the advice. as previously stated i am open to any suggestion although i am leaning toward chichlids. in your reply you stated "If you decide to have something other than cichlids, there are very pretty ones like rainbowfish, dwarf gouramis, cherry barbs, all different kinds of tetras, several varieties of danios, cory cats, etc." which of the above can be in the same community? i am not familiar at all with rainbowfish? i am willing to explore all options that have a wide variety of species, shapes, and colors for a nicely diverse community. THE ONE THING I FORGOT TO ASK..... is there any place you would reccomend to order fish to be shipped to NC? I will need to order over the internet if I end up tring to buy breeding pairs. Don't want to get taken. thanks again

Answer
Hi DeWight;

All the fish I listed are compatible with each other except for the rainbows. Rainbows have different requirements than the others. They like hard water and are actually compatible with some less aggressive african cichlids.

As far as ordering fish over the internet I just don't know. I haven't done that myself. You may have to wait until spring for a good guaranteed live delivery. I know many people over on the freshwater forum have done it with good results. They ship to each other too, trading and selling. You might post a question there about it and see what the members suggest. They may have other good suggestions for what you can stock in your tank too. The link is below......
