Question
I have a 40 Gallon tank and i have 5 african cichlids in it,a catfish and a pleco. The fish tank has a rock, fake log, a brick with holes in it, 4-5 plants, and another fake rock! Is that too much to have in the 40 gallon tank? The fish seem happy they are not fighting as much!!!!

Answer
Hi Tyler,

The decorations sound fine, the more the merrier. Fish usually do prefer to have more cover than not, so I see no reason to do anything different as far as your aquascape goes. Sounds like a nice tank!

One last thing, there are lots of different kinds of catfish. Most often when people mean catfish, they mean corydoras - if this is the case, make sure you get some more because corys are social fish and a single one will not thrive. If you are not sure what kind it is, when you go back to the pet store, make sure to remember the name on the catfish. Then go home, use Google.com to research and ensure it's not a schooling or social catfish that you have! Remember, schooling fish need to be kept in groups of 3 individuals minimum, usually 6 or more is best.

Good luck, enjoy your aquarium!
