Treating ich with a pregnant platy

Question
Hi there.  I just have a couple of questions I would like to ask.  First off, I have a 55 gallon tank that I have been treating an outbreak of ich in for about a week now.  I caught it very early, so it has not gotten out of hand, and only about 2 or 3 of my fish are actually showing small amounts of white spots, and none of them are actually 'flashing' anymore.  But that's just the thing, I have been treating for a week now, and it is still there.  The small glow tetra is actually worse off now.  I am starting to get a little disheartened at this point.  I started with Jungle Ick Guard which is just the malachite green medication, but it seemed like it wasn't sticking around in the tank very long (the blue water color would fade after only a couple of hours).  I cranked the heater up as high as it goes, and the water won't get warmer than 80 degrees (I've read that a higher temp. speeds up the lifecycle of the parasite, or even kills it if you can get it to 86 degrees or so).  I have been doing daily water changes with gravel vac, took the carbon out of the filter system, and even removed the live plants thinking that maybe they were absorbing the medication.  So today, I started with Quick Cure, which is the formalin/malachite green mixture.  Do you have any experience with the Quick Cure? how long should I dose with this one before I resort to using the Copper Sulfate?  I do not have invertebrates, nor do I plan on getting any in the future.  On top of this, I have a beautiful Sunrise Platy who seems to be due to give birth any day.  I purchased a small, 3 gallon, aquarium that I was thinking about moving her into and treating separately until she has the babies.  If I do move her into this, should I 1/2 dose her and the fry, or should I just keep her in the main tank and continue the full dose, then move her in a couple of days (assuming the outbreak is gone by then, and she hasn't had the babies yet) to have the babies in the smaller tank?

I also have another kind of unrelated question.  Since I have been doing daily gravel vacs, I have been noticing a large amount of what appear to be live blood worms being sucked out of the gravel.  I have never had bloodworms in this tank, so I was just wondering where they could be coming from?

I greatly appreciate your time, and any info. you can give me.

Sincerely,
Jenn

Answer
hey jen.
the best way to cure this is to wait until the ich begins to detach it self from the fish and begin to create more, the reason for this is the ich has no where to survive if you add in aquarium salt once they sink to the bottom and die faster than using medication.
let the cycle go on and wait until you see them begin to fall off.
once this happens add in the aquarium salt and it'll kill 90% of the ich and do it again once the remaining ich of the fish finish off their cycle.
don't reuse the carbon you've taken out, clean the filter and cartridge(s).
the platy will be fin even with medication and the fry will be okay too but move as many as you can to the 3 gallon so they don't get infected and die.
and the blood  worms i have no idea unless you fed live blood worms and 2 survived that's all i can think of.
