Question
i have a fresh water tank(30gal)with a oscar  a couple cichlids and a pleco,  at the best the water is so cloudy i cant see more than half way into the tank and i have constant algy blooms so the water has a green tint to it most of the time . I have been changing the water about 50o/o every other day and still NG, the ph is high and I cant seem to get it to 7.0 and i'm running white rocks in filter for nitrates they were high , but white rocks helped , the algy drops havent seemed to do too much what can i try?

Answer
Hi Tom

First thing to do is make sure the tank does not get direct sunlight. Next, try a more subdued lighting such as natural daylight lamps rather than incandescent or typical fluorescent lamps. A UV Sterilizer also keeps the water clear.

Finally there is a product you can buy online called Algone. I ordered some but can't say definitely that it works. I ordered it after other experts recommended it, so I wanted to see it before I recommended it to others. I only use it in my Oscar tank but that water was crystal clear before. However, Oscars are messy and mine are with Firemouths, Convicts, Blood Parrots etc. So I'm sure the Algone is contributing to the clarity of this tank.

You can check it out for yourself, here is the link....

Hope this helps, good luck!
