10 gallon setup

Question
Hi!
I recently bought a 10 gallon aquarium and have some questions about it. I previously tried to breed Bettas in it but that didn't go as planned so now I'm just trying for a hobby tank.
I had it half full because I had the breeding Bettas in there, and today I just filled it up the rest of the way.
I do not have any fish in there yet. I'm cycling it right now, and plan to for another 2 weeks or so. Its 10 gallons, has gravel substrate a Whisper 20i back of tank filter. A 50 watt heater and some fake plants and other decor. I do not have a light, it didn't come with the tank, will I need one?
I have not bought any fish yet but this is what I'm thinking. I don't know how compatible they are so please tell me if you have any other suggestions
Fish:
2 female Bettas (already have)
1 Male Dwarf Gourami.
3 Cory Catfish.
Maybe a small school of Neon Tetras?
Which fish should I add first? I already have the Bettas, so I was planning on adding them first. Is that okay? Since the only fish I have is the Bettas, nothing is set in stone. Pretty much anything is changeable.

Answer
Hi Kelsy

Well, 2 female Bettas will not work together. They are called Fighting Fish for a reason. The male Bettas are not the only ones that fight, the females do too. Usually in very large tanks 2 of them will work together.

You want to rethink the Neons, Bettas and Neons can't live together either. When choosing tankmates for Bettas, always avoid bright colors like Neons and fancy fins like Angels and Guppies.

The Dwarf Gourami and the Corys should all be ok with a Betta. I don't have any female Bettas, but I have many male Bettas in community tanks with Mollies, Corys and Dwarf Gouramis. They are all peaceful communities.

Hope this helps, good luck!
