Question
I have just purchased a 30 gallon, it is all set up (filter, heater, air pump, gravel, plants(artifical) and somem structures for hiding).
I added my first fish yesterday - 2 dalmation mollies and 2 tuxedo platys.  So far so good!
Here are my questions:
1.  What else would make a nice peaceful community?
2.  What should I add next?
3.  How long do I wait to add my next group?
4.  What type of fish should I add to the bottom?
5.  Do I wait to add my bottom fish and pleco once I see algae develop?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Answer
Hi tr

There is a lot you could do with this tank, but you don't want to add any more fish until the tank cycles, which takes 4-6 weeks.

1. What else would make a nice peaceful community?
There are many peaceful fish that will work here. To name a few, Dwarf Gourami, Diamond Tetra, Serpae Tetra, Black Tetra, Redeye Tetra, Swordtails, Red Phantom Tetra, Cherry Barbs, Danios, Harlequin Rasbora and your bottom feeder could be a small Pleco and a couple of Raphael Catfish or a small group of Cory Cats.

2.  What should I add next?
Your bottom feeders would be a good choice to add next.

3.  How long do I wait to add my next group?
As I said, the tank needs to cycle before you add any more fish. After your tank has been setup for 4 weeks, you can usually start adding a small group per week until the tank is completely stocked. A full tank should contain 1" of fish per gallon of water.

4.  What type of fish should I add to the bottom?
Your bottom feeder could be a couple of Raphael Catfish or a small group of Cory Cats.

5.  Do I wait to add my bottom fish and pleco once I see algae develop? No.

Hope this helps, good luck!
