Question

I'm thinking about getting some pet shrimp and all I need ( I think ) is a filter. I was just wondering if the Aquarium Siphon Vacuum Cleaner Pump will be any good.

Answer
Hi Dean,

I found this question in the 'pool' of questions that other experts were not able to answer, so sorry for the inconvenience. I'm Nathan, another expert in this category.

You really don't need an aquarium vacuum for shrimp. Shrimp are more hardy than fish, and you can just stir the gravel to get all the dirt into the water. Shrimps do not produce much waste. The filter will then pick it all up. Unless you're planning on starting a 50 gallon aquarium just for shrimp, I'd skip the cleaning siphon. If you're going to be putting fish into the aquarium, then you will need the siphon.

And in case you were not sure... all you need is the tank, a substrate (gravel or sand), a filter, and food.

Good Luck, and Happy Fishkeeping!
