Introducing a male beta to a female beta

Hello Ron,

I have a female betta that I've kept for about six months and I wanted to introduce her to a friend. My question was how long does it take for them to start breeding or laying eggs? Will they be alright for the first few months or how will I know when it's that time? (Don't know please refer this to someone else.)

Hi Michelle,
  They could start breeding within days if she likes him.  If she doesn't like him, well, then it could be never...

The important thing is to make sure that the tank that they share has LOTS of hiding places for her so that if things do not go well she has a place to go.  Otherwise, he could easily kill her.
