My Bettas eye

Question
Hi Amber. My name is Chelsea and I have had a male betta for about two years. He has always seemed happy and healthy except for today. I noticed his left eye was swollen and very red. I was looking on the internet and I dont think it is pop-eye. Do you have any idea what his swollen and red eye has? And what I can do?
Thank you,
Chelsea

Answer
Hello Chelsea-

He may have hurt his eye somehow and gotten an infection, since it's red and swollen, rather than whitish.

To help treat this, you can add a dose of Melafix and aquarium salt to the tank. A 25% water change will also help. This will help to kill off any bacteria and will promote healing of any damaged tissues.

Hope this is useful, and I hope your little guy recovers.
