i have a question, that i have bought 2 black and grey convicts a male and a female the male is 2.5 inches and the female is 2 inches i am sure that the male want to breed with the female but the female just swims around ignoring the male some time she does go after the male i have a flower pot in the tank they both hide in it but don't reproduce i need help i have them in a 20 gal tank with gravel and a flower pot the temp is 82F and i am doing 15% water changes every 3 days the tank has been set for more then 4.5 weeks i also have a firemouth in the tank i think its a female thanks am i think this site is great keep it up!

Hi hurerah shaikh;

She may not be ready yet, or you have two males. If indeed a female, she has to be full of eggs in order to spawn. Feed the fish lots of good high protein food such as worms and shrimp for a couple of weeks. The tank is also just coming through the break-in period so she may not be feeling much like breeding yet.

You will want to get the firemouth out of there too. Once the convicts spawn they will kill him. It doesn't matter how big he is either. Convicts will kill fish many times their size in a tank even bigger than 20 gallons to protect their nest. VERY aggressive little fish.
