confused

Question
So my beta fish was getting sick since my friend didn't take care of him while I was in the hospital visiting a friend. I ended up cleaning his tank and everything and he seemed much better. But, all of the sudden when I was watching him he sort of puffed his gills out at me.  Is that like some kind of warning or is it that he wasn't getting enough of something?...

Hes just showing off for you! You must be attractive to him. It can also be a sign of him showing machoness. Its quite funny that bettas do this as they think they can beat us up! This just shows hes healthy and living quite well! Congrats on the betta healing so fast.
