Betta fish with growth on face

Hi,

I've had my Betta fish for about 1 yr 1/2 now and have recently noticed a growth on the side of his face, about the size of a pea. Is there anything I can do to help the little guy? Thanks. I can send a pic, hope they show up.

John - you pictures didn't show up (typically you have to give the HTML codes here). What color is the growth? Is it under the skin or is it external? This could be anything from a harmless tumor, to an ulcer, to ich.
