Betta fish and cancer?

23 14:13:53

Question
I have a Betta that is peach colored so it is very light colored.  It has a black spot that seems to run through his body and out the other side.  One side sticks out and has a crusty look or white scales around the black area. It looks like it is in his intestinal area, or just below his stomach.
Do you think it is Cancer?  If not, what?  Is there anyting you think I should do?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi April;

It's hard to say what it could be. Cancer is certainly a possibility. The only treatable cause I can think of is an abcess from infection. You could try treating with an antibiotic product called "Maracyn Two". It absorbs inside the fish to treat infections.
