Angelfish advice

Question
One of my angelish just died and I am wondering how best to help her mate.  I got them both as babies and have had them for five years.  I have a 55 gallon freshwater tank that also has various gouramies, and a fish that looks like a leopard (who technical name I can never remember).  Should I get another angelfish or just leave the one alone?  I'm very sad to have lost this fish, and don't want to lose the other one too.  Also, I'm pretty sure the surviving fish is a male and the other was a female, but how can I be totally sure?  I appreciate any advice.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Kim,
The choice is yours as to whether you get another angelfish.  Fish like angelfish, despite what people think, do not mate for life or any such thing so your existing fish may readily accept a new mate.  However, putting in a particular new fish does not mean that your angel will like that particular one, so there is a risk to doing that.

Sexing angelfish involves the angle that the large fin on the bottom (the anal fin) makes with the body.  In males, the anal fin sweeps back from the body.  In females, there is almost a right angle where the anal fin comes off of the body. The difference is subtle but predictable, i.e., if you look at enough of them, you will start to notice this.
