Question
Hello

I am hoping you can help!! About three weeks ago - we acquired a tank with 4 small neon tetras and a plec. We added 3 silver mollies and 3 black neon tetras.

Last week my Mother-in-law turned up with 4 adult and 2 baby platy fish.

Yesterday I was looking in the tank and spotted a tiny tiny little black baby fish swimming at the back of the tank!!

I had no idea that any of the fish were pregnant!! What should we do???? Do we need to take the baby out - will he get eaten by the other fish? do we need to feed him anything different??

many thanks

Vicki

Answer
Vicki,

If you have lots of plants and hiding places the baby should be ok. If spotted by other fish it runs the risk of being eaten. You can remove it and put it in your hospital tank until it is big enough to go back to the main tank. You will need to feed it food for fry. It is small and the baby will be able to eat it. You can find any baby food at your local fish store. If you feed the adults flake food you can ground it up smaller to feed the baby.
