Big White Spot on head

I bought a dark blue betta from a local pet store 4 days ago. I keep him in a 1 gal tank with rocks and a hiding place by himself. I have only cleaned his bowl once with 100% water change. I had let the clean water sit a day as to not shock him when i put him back in the clean bowl. I use novaqua to treat the tap water i use to get rid of chlorine and copper. It has no filter. on the 3rd day he seemed to be losing color underneath his head i guess the equivalent of where our necks would be. today (the 4th day) I noticed a big white spot on his head. To me it looks like he is missing a scale because there aren't other little spots like ich would suggest and it is bigger than a grain of salt. He is swimming around the tank a lot but sometimes will sit on the bottom for 10 min or so and seems to like hiding in his hiding place. sometimes he moves back and forth like he sees his own reflection on the side of the bowl but i haven't seen him try to scratch anything. I have been feeding him two small pellets twice a day (sorry i don't know the food company i put it in a different container)but he eats them happily and normally. It is my first fish but other than the one white spot and a little color loss he seems fine. The water temp is between 65 and 70 degrees. I can't get a good picture but the spot isn't swollen it just looks as if a scale is missing. Could that be it and if so what would cause a missing scale and what should i do?

The first thing is 1 gallon is not big enough for him. The smallest he should be in is 2.5 the best being 5 gallons. He also needs a heater. Betta's are tropical and needs their water to be 80 degrees at all times. If it just looks like a scale is missing then he should be ok. Not sure what the hiding place is but he could have scraped his head on it. He will continue to fade in color and become more lethargic without the warm water. Just keep an eye on him and if anything changes let me know.
