Question
hello ma'am, does over consumption of legumes lead to colic in horses? i mean to say if a horse grazes legume too much, does it lead to colic?

Answer
Hi Rohit,

Thank you for your question.  Over consumption of legumes should not lead to colic unless the horse has not had enough time to adjust to a legume-rich diet.  Some horses live on all-forage diets without digestive upset.  Horses require a transition time between different forage types without which they are at an increased risk of developing colic.  The risk of colic is easily controlled through improved feeding management.

Thanks, Corlena
