is my mare in foal or is this a phantom

Question
I bought a mare in july who was running with a colt and a stallion for over 6 months.I thought maybe she was in foal but my vet came out 3 weeks ago and said he couldnt feel any thing so to carry on riding.But over the last week she has gone very large around her belly and started to bag up and has milk veins.I contacted my vet who told me it was more than likely a phantom but she is a maiden mare so how would she know what is like to pregnant.Im not riding her something is telling me something isnt right this morning she is biting her tummy a lot and not a happy girl she seems moody and unhappy can you help how far do they take phantom pregnancies please help

Dear Lucy,
          I really doubt this is a phantom, because like you said she is a maiden mare, and they don't know what it is like. However sometimes hormones can tell us we are when we aren't.
         I would get an differant vet out to look at her and do a pregnancy test on her.
