Question
Hey Lyn, I have a 16yr old throughbred gelding,16.2 hands, beautiful bay, trained for A circuit jumping, shows english, wins top at walk, trot canter, holds himself with great confidence, loves to jump and keep on moving, temperment no more than a 3, no physical problems at all that I am aware. Please advise me on what you think his value would be. He is a very eye catching horse, beautiful! Thanks

Answer
Debbie,

I suggest you contact an equine appraiser to get a good, professional assessment of his value.  I don't have a good feel for what the market value of horses is where you are.  He is somewhat aged so his value won't be that of a younger horse.  There are a number of professional, certified equine appraisers out there.  I have a friend of mine in Oklahoma who does equine appraising.  I don't know what fee she charges but you could contact Sam to see if she can help you.  Her email address is equesrdr@yahoo.com.  Her phone number is (405) 314-7753.  Her full name is Samantha Brunner.  She is a former riding student of mine and very good friend.  If you contact her let her know that I suggested you do so and I'm sure she can help you more than I can.  She will have specific information that you will need to provide so that she can arrive at a correct value.  I don't know if you wish to establish his value for insurance purposes or to sell or just so you have an idea of what he is worth but she can help you.
