Question
Hi-
I was thinking of getting a yellow bellied cooter to put in my pond for the summer, and bring in for the winter.  I need some info. on them...How closely related to the yellow bellied slider are they?  Will it eat my water hyacyinth, umbrella palm, and lily pads that are in my pond?  A care sheet would be great...I can't find any info. on them anywhere.  Any info. would be appreciated.  Thanks!  I was going to buy one on Sunday.  I live in Dayton, Ohio for climate answers.  Thanks! :)

Answer
There is no such thing as a Yellow-belly Cooter, so it is probably really a Yellow-belly Slider.

You can get good care sheets at http://www.redearslider.com and http://www.austinsturtlepage.com

Will it eat the water plants? Probably at least some of them, but I am not sure about specifics for the this species.
