Questioni have a red eared slider in a 10 gal tank. has been doing great, but i just got him a 20 gal tank with led lights, (like a starter kit) i havent opened it yet, as i am afraid the led lights are not the proper ones for RES. should i exchange it? or just add a basking lamp of some sort?
AnswerA 10 gallon is a bit small. How big is this turtle?
And no, a red light is not what you need. You need a UVB lamp and you need basking basking heat. That means you either need to buy a ZooMed Powersun that takes care of both, OR you need to buy a hood and a linear UVB lamp AND a basking heat lamp. Not compact, not coil. Compacts and coil lamps are cheap and dangerous. Buy either #1 or #2 AND #3 (along with the proper fixtures.

I would then advise you to do better research if you want this turtle to be healthy and live a long as it is supposed to, which is 20 or more years.
