Bearded dragon scales

On the beard part of my bearded dragon, it looks like he is loosing scales & it is turning black in the spots where it looks like the scales are gone, what could be the cause of it?

That sounds like a humidity issue to me.  I would ask what the temperature parameters are in the basking site and the cool side as well.  I would also ask what the humidity is at in the enclosure and this would be give some more information so that I can answer your question better.  Also are the scales coming off when he sheds.
