Question
My daughter has 2 female dwarf lop eared rabbits and they escaped from their hutch on tuesday 24th and lived in the field beside our house until they returned 24 and 48 hours later, with some cuts and fleas. We took them to the vet who says they wounds are fine and we have treated the fleas. However the vet said their was a high probability they are pregnant as there were surrounded by wild rabbits. I believe rabbits are pregnant for around a month which co-incides brilliantly (NOT!)with us being away on holiday and the rabbits are being looked after by our friends.
So can you help me with the following?
1 Are there any early signs I should look out for? we are away from 17th August for two weeks, so that would be 3 weeks pregnant if they are.
2. Do I separate them if one or both of them are pregnant?
3. Do they just sort themselves out during birthing (I presume so) and is there anything I need to do?
4. Is there a problem with them having a dad from the wrong side of the fence?
5. If I have a hutch full of baby bunnies, what so I instruct my daughter to do with regard to moving, touching, cleaning etc.
6. Are half wild rabbits OK to give away as pets or should I let them back into the field to be reunited with their father?
Thank you for any help you can give.  I need to explain everything to my house/pet sitters as the rabbit/s are likely to deliver while they are here if they are pregnant and my dates are correct.
Kind regards
Ali

Answer
Hi Ali!

The best thing you can do is take them to a vet and have them spayed asap.

Wild cross domestics are impossible to find homes for, they are unsuitable to be homed as pets as they will be unhandleable.

You can't release them either as they'll lack the necessary skills to survive in the wild.

Yes they sort themselves out during birthing but you will need to have someone around in case they get into difficults and need to be taken to a vet.

Wild rabbits carry all sorts of diseases including Mxyomatosis and VHD, not to mention Fleas and EC.

Hope this helps, let me know what you decide
