Lump on rabbits tummy

Question
Hi, I have two baby rabbits, they're probably 13 weeks or so, and one of them has just developed a lump on her underside, on her tummy.  She's fine and acting as normal, I can feel it, but can't see anything.  They're still indoor rabbits and are kept in a hutch (they're being moved outside shortly).  Any info would be greatly received!

Answer
Dear Rebecca,

Without seeing the lump, I can't really tell what it is.  But it could be an abscess or even a hernia.  Either one needs the attention of an experienced rabbit vet.  You can find one here:

Before you consider moving the bunnies outdoors, please visit:

www.rabbit.org/

and click on "House Rabbits 101".  Rabbits are *not* safe outdoors, and they can be such wonderful indoor companions that I hope you will reconsider.  They are odorless, affectionate, entertaining and intelligent.  You won't get even a fraction of what they are if you keep them outside.  Plus, they are in danger from predators and you won't be able to monitor their health as closely if they are outdoors.

If you have any questions about this, please do feel free to write back.

Hope this helps!

Dana
