Question
I purchased a pair of mini rex rabbits about 2 weeks ago from a breeder near my home.  I noticed tonite that the female is not using her left hind leg.  No one has taken her out of her cage and I do not see any wounds or marks that are noticeable.  She came up to eat when we fed and watered her but her leg is just lifeless.  She was not like this before and the male in the cage on the side of her is fine.  We purchased a netherland dwarf at the same time and she is fine also.  It is after 9pm here so a vet is not an option tonite.  I just don't know what happened.  We have been feeding her regular rabbit food from the feed store and she has had water constantly available.  We have not given her any "treats" or greens.  She does however have a salt lick.

Any suggestions would be wonderful.  She is housed outside in a covered wire cage.  It is very similar to the setup she was in when I got her.

Thanks.
Jodi

Answer
The only things I can think of is something that may have startled her in such a way that she moved in a fashion that either caused a "soft" injury to her back, or she landed awkwardly on her leg causing injury.  I would think that a back injury would show lameness in both legs though.

The other thing would be a genetic defect, or a sickness that may have caused it.  This site lists some possibilities:

I'm sorry I don't have a good answer for you.  Only a vet will be able to make a determination.

Good luck
