Rabbit Health: What Is It?

Question
My family has a dwarf-dutch rabbit and he's about 9-10 years old. We've been taking great care of him, but a few months ago we noticed a bump on his face, next to his nose. Before we noticed the bump, he had a heavy head tilt which caused him to be unbalanced. We took him to the vet for the head tilt and and was told to give him some medicine. The medicine worked and his tilit is now gone, but the bump on his face has grown substaintially and now appears to be dry and flaky. All of his activities, eating, drinking, hopping around, interacting, are completely normal and even his bowels and urine are normal. We would like to know exactly what this bump/growth is, if it is curable and if there's anything that we can do to help him that would be "pocket-friendly". We do not have the finances to take him to the vet again and we are considering finding some sort of pet insurance. Do you have any idea of what this bump may be?

Answer
Dear Sheri,

Without seeing the bump, I cannot make a positive diagnosis.  It could be an abscess, a wart, a tumor, an overgrown tooth root pushing through the bone...the list goes on.  You really need to get him to a good rabbit vet:

who can diagnose this and prescribe appropriate treatment.  It could be a molar root abscess, and it might be related to his previous head tilt.

I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.  But unfortunately, there is nothing you can do for a problem like this without consulting a veterinarian.
