Question
I have a young Rabbit 6mths old male not neutered who has suddenly lost the use of his hind legs, I cannot get him into a vet until later in the week. His Hutch isnt covered in flymesh is it possible that he has Colesi? Not sure of spelling and can it be treated???

Answer
Dear Alyson,

I would get him indoors as soon as possible to protect him from any dangers that he will face outdoors and be unable to protect himself.  A hutch isn't safe enough for a disabled rabbit.

There are many possible causes of hind limb paresis in rabbits, and you can read an overview here:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/paresis.html

Prompt treatment is vital, especially if this is due to a traumatic injury. So if the vet you've called can't see you right away, try to find another vet here who can:

Time is of the essence, and the sooner he's treated the better his chances for recovery.

I hope this helps.
