Question
Hi i was just reading your question about how to bath rabbits, keep them cool and so one when you said about a cooling system for if the rabbit is outside. what exactly is a cooling system?

Answer
Hi,

well, there are two things I've advised for hot weather.  One, if you can keep them indoors in air conditioning during hot weather, it is best.  They cannot handle a lot of heat.

If they are outside, they need a few things.  First, they need a covered area where they can rest without the sun beating down on them (ie they need a shaded area that doesn't go away).  A box with an entrance that does not have sun beaming into it is okay.

Second, lots of people partially fill up old water and soda bottles and wrap them in an old light towel or cotton t-shirt (so bunny won't chew on the plastic or get too cold - bottle should not go directly up against the rabbit) and give this to them so that they can lean against it to help cool themselves down.  If it is a smaller bottle you can partially fill it up, and take an old cotton sock, and stitch up one end and you're good to go.

Third, never let them run out of clean water.  This will kill them.

I don't recommend misting or spraying rabbits with water to cool them down.  In an emergency case I may wet their ears with cold water, but they generally hate water so that's why it's not a good idea because it stresses them out and hurts more than helps.
