Why Dont They Like Me!?

Question
I just recently bought 2 female holland lop bunnies who i believe are around 1 1/2-2 months old about a week ago. I bought them from a pet store at the local mall but the owner said that they were "spoiled by his daughters" so i figured they were going to be used to people. They are adorable and love to run around and "binky". They seem very happy when running around and playing with each other but when it comes to me picking them up to cuddle or groom, they want nothing to do with me. I have to trick them into a corner to pick them up. Then once on my lap, they try everything to find a way back to the ground. I have found though that laying them down on their backs that they fall into the "trance" that i have heard about. But i have heard so much about how Holland Lops are so cuddly and playful, but i havent experienced it. I am wondering if getting them spayed will change some of this behavior. I don't know if it's because they were in a local pet store or what, but it is very discouraging and frustrating when they want nothing to do with me.  They do come up to me when i sit real still on the floor but they dont stick around for very long. Am I doing something wrong? I thought that holding them would help them get used to it but i feel like its just making them shy away from me even more. Any tips would be great. I hope they will grow out of it because if not, this is going to be a long 10 years together.

Answer
hello amanda

You are not doing nothing wrong. rabbits are very frightened animals and can also be very shy. and unfortunatly your have two of them. They will get used to you, but it will take time.

the next time they are in there cage feed them some tasty treats through the wire,if you carry on doing this daily they will soon realise that you are not a bad person and you just want to love them.

i dont think that spaying them will change this behaviour,it usually only helps if a rabbit is very aggressive.

I think that this behaviour also has something to do with them being in the pet shop. even if they had been well handled they could have felt trapped in a little glass cage.

carry on sitting on the floor, let them come up to you as much as possible, have some veg and treats in your hand so you can give them to your bunnies.

hope this helps

good luck, and dont give up you can do it
