sad or lonely?

Question
hi there, just wondered if you can help.I have a giant continental rabbit who really isnt her self.we had 2 sister does and suddenley 2 weeks ago one of them sadly died, we dont know why, we have a feeling that it could be that when we had a BBQ a few weeks ago one of the guest gave them letiuce or something that they shouldnt have. But the biggest of the two bunnies sadly died a few days after the BBQ. they where both kept in the same cage and are both around 6 months old. Untill about 4 days ago the doe we have left really went off of her food and has not eaten a thing for about 3 days. She even got to the stage of not even getting up and even when we picked her up and moved her or even putting her in the garden she just laid down.
We then decided to bring her inside the house and put her in an indoor hutch to keep a closer eye on her she started to move about and come out of her cage and she has only manged to eat half an apple in the last two days, she is drinking water.
Anyway sorry for going on, but do you think she is just lonely and missing her sister or do you think there is something else wrong with her.i have got an appointment with the vet on tuesday but i dont want to loose her in the meantime.
thanx katy

Answer
hello kay

i am so very sorry for your lose. It is the hardest things when loosing a pet. it sounds to me that your other bunny is just missing her best buddy an awful lot, it makes it much harder for her as they are sisters and have been together since birth. This has happened to me before, i had to brothers and one died and the other was grieving for him for ages, he hardly eat and didnt want cuddles for a while. it does take them a while to get other there lose, but im sure that in time your bunny will be back to normal and eating well, Also getting another friend for her may help. lettuce is very bad for rabbits but depending on how much it was i dont think this could have caused your bunnies death. rabbits can die very quickly without no or very little warning.

try giving her loads of strokes and cuddles and try giving her fav treats to tempt her to eat, also some toys to play with such as tunnels and balls.

hope this helps

let me know if i can help you with anything else
