Pot belly pigs

Question
I have an 8 month old male pot belly and I just got a 7 month old female pot belly pig. I want to know how I can introduce the two and what I can do to help them to get comfortable together? I put them together for a few minutes at a time and they are fine at first but after a few minutes they start biting eachother and I am afraid one of them is going to get badly hurt. I need help on how to go about putting them together and how to break up the biting but get them to get along so I can one day soon leave them alone together..

Also, I want to know if these pigs get lonely? I dont have that much time for them and I probebly get to spend an hour to 2 hours with my female and a little more with my male.. I worry about them all the time because they are alone so much and i wonder if they get sad or if they prefer to be alone?

I would greatly appreiciate your input and advice!

Thank you
Amanda

Answer
I hope your pigs are spayed and neutered, because they are old enough to breed. Good homes are hard to find for piglets, and many, many pigs and piglets are dumped in rescues and sanctuaries every year.

Pigs are naturally social, living in herds, with surprisingly strict social rules. Pigs see the world around them as a social ladder, with the Top Pig (or person) at the top. So when your two pigs get together, they have to decide between themselves who is going to be Top Pig and who is going to be Second Pig. And they'll decide this by fighting.

There's no way around it - that's just the way pigs are. It often sounds a lot worse than it is. Have some antibacterial ointment ready to put on any wounds. The squabbling may continue for a couple of weeks, until they have worked out all the details in their piggy relationship.

Every pig has their own personality, some love people and attention and others are not interested in people unless they have food. A solitary pig is likely to get lonely, but when your two pigs are together they'll have each other for company.
