rat has one large red eye

Question
I had just adopted a 3 week female dumbo rat. when i got her i knew one eye was big and the other small, the person i got her from said it was a birth mutation (i see it as a rare phenotype), the bigger eye is red and she definitely cant see trough it, there is no red discharge and she acts healthy with the exception when she is in her tank she seems to close the bigger eye more. I have studied this somewhat and it seems I'm either crazy or she has a hemotoma. can you help me?

Answer
If by hematoma you mean it being an orbital hematoma (a rattie black eye!), you're probably not crazy, she may have it. But a hematoma shouldn't last from birth to adoption (and are you sure your baby is 3 weeks? That's incredibly young to wean! Preferable is 5 weeks), and it should be getting better day by day. If she appears to be in pain, you can medicate her; if she seems fine.. let her be. If she isn't recovering soon and you still think this isn't a birth defect, I'd take her to the vet.
