Cloudy eyes

Question
My mother has a 3 month old, female blue dumbo rat (Kit) who has been in good health from day one.  She shares a cage with her sister, a 3 month old gray hooded dumbo (Pip).  They are both active & eating well.  They are fed Kaytee Forti-Diet Crunch w/dental bites and given rodent blocks.  Their bedding is Aspen.  To encourage them to come to us, we use original Cheerios as a treat.  (No more than 2 each per day.)  Today, Kit's eyes are both cloudy and the left has some mucus discharge.  She is drinking & eating & active. Any ideas?

Answer
Sounds like an eye infection. I'd take her to the vet and have them look at her. If it is just a basic infection, they'll put her on some eyedrops (or possibly oral medications, depends on how severe) and she'll be cleared up in no time.

Keep you eyes open for any other symptoms, though. Sometimes an eye infection is just the tip of the iceburg.
