QuestionHello, my male blue dumbo rat has some funny looking skin on his back going down to his tail, it looks like it's stained slightly orange or red and has little flakes ( I dont think they're bugs). Nothing to bad but I noticed him spending a long time scratching and biting the other day and it made me wonder if it could be something serious. Any help you can give me would be wonderful!! Thanks
AnswerNope, most likely its rusting due to his buck grease. Buck grease is very normal and just part of being a boy rat, however too much of it can lead to skin infections.. it's waxy buildup, so the easiest way to remove it is with a soft toothbrush rubbed gently in a circular motion during bath time. Build up is very noticable, it resembles earwax and sticks out away from the skin. The stain, however, is there forever. :)
