Neutering one of our pet rats

Question
Hi Sandra,

I'm wondering if you can recommend an expert rodent vet in the Milwaukee area.  One of our two rats, both males, has become increasingly aggressive.  He is 8 months old and is now biting people as well as his half-brother.  He is very territorial.  We separated the two boys thinking it would help.  It didn't. We have a vet we like, but aren't comfortable that he has enough experience neutering rats.  I am also wondering if the less aggressive male should also be neutered.  If we only neuter one, will the now passive guy likely become aggressive?

Thanks so much.  You always provide great advice.

Answer
Hi

I had to neuter a pair of brothers for aggression and after a few weeks they a like new rats! There were tearing each other up as well as their two half brothers and like yours, started on me after that.
If the second rat is pretty docile, I wouldnt neuter him. Chances are he is just defending himself when the other boy gets nasty.

The vets below are AWESOME!  I would go for the first place, Brook Falls but both places offer top notch exotic vet services.
