just got a new rat

Hello Janell!

I'm so excited I just got a new rat three days ago who was being fostered. He seems to be fitting in perfect but my problem is he likes to be up all day with me I try to only let him out for a half hour then put him in his cage to rest for atleast 15 minuets. He seems to like to sleep at night thou this is very uncommon for a rat right? I don't want to affect his health by keeping him up with me during the day then putting him to bed at night. So is it good for him to be up with me during the day and sleep at night?

Rats are pretty adaptable, and his wanting to be with you is a great sign of bonding - I wouldn't worry about it much. As long as he's still sleeping, eating, drinking and playing he's fine - it's if he decides to quit playing or quit sleeping altogether that you have a problem.
