Question
I recently brought home a new female Dumbo, and like typical female rats she was very active. The first thing I noticed was that she has been changing colors. First she was white with two large tan spots. The spots faded overnight and her eyes deepened in their red color. Now shes turning from white to a Siamese coloring.
Now, about a month later She has developed a major issue. She has become extremely lethargic, only walks in circles, can't right herself, and looks to be blind. she is showing definite weakness on her left side and squeaks when picked up. she won't (or can't) clean herself.
To make maters worse, its Saturday afternoon and the only vet that is open does not do rodents, and nothing will be open until monday.
Please help as even though we have only had her a short time, the family has become quite attached to her.

Answer
The coloration is normal. She's a trimese. Trimeses often begin life as a beige hooded or beige 'dalmation' and then end up himalayan/siamese.

It sounds to me like she either has a severe inner ear problem or has had a stroke. The inner ear issue may be taken care of, however they may always have wryneck (a head tilt). If its a stroke, she may be like this permanently. If you can get her to a vet today; do so. They should be able to pinpoint why she has begun these behaviors and give you steroids to reduce the swelling and inflammation around her spinal cord and brain stem which is probably causing the circling and the loss of balance.

In the meantime, keep her comfortable.

Good luck!
