After an abscess has been removed

Question
Two Weeks Ago my 1 1/2 year old female rat had the puss drained out of an abscess on her face. Every day since I have once a day used a hot compress and squeezed a little bit less out each day, flushed it accordingly, and I gave her antibiotics from my vet for the first week until they ran out. The swelling has significantly gone down, and the past two times I have removed the scab and squeezed it there has been no puss but there is still a lump. Should I be concerned with this lump remaining there?
Thank you so much.

Answer
The lump is probably just the scar tissue that has formed around the wound.  It should soften up with time, but keep an eye on it as it may be another abscess that is forming.  If there's no pus it sounds like it has healed and you probably can leave the scab at this point and see if it heals on its own.  If the lump gets any bigger you'll have to go back to the vet to make sure it is taken care of.  Good luck with your rat!
