Wanda on antibiotics - white poo?

Question
Hiya,

I have written to you many times with regards to Wanda my 2 year old doe. She has been having problems with suspected urine infection now for over a month.

She is on Septrin 2x a day for the past month. Before that she was on Baytril but when she came off the blood in the urine returned so my vet said to try a longer course of a different antibiotic.

My new vet who specialises in Rats has now given her Septrin for 1 month and she has been fine, no blood in the urine etc.

The only problme is, her poo has gone white sometimes. She has been getting plenty of fluids, eating, drinking and running about as normal. I will call the vet tomorrow but she's shut on Sunday except for emergencies. So thought I would see if you could shed any light?

If when I take her off the antibiotics, the blood returns, my vet is going to take an x-ray to see if there is another problem.

Thanks for your help,

Amanda x

Answer
Hi Amanda

Has the vet done a urinalysis on the rats urine to determine the type of organism that is causing the infection?

As for the stool, it may be dry from the meds. Is it hard as well as white?

I am wondering if your little one doesn't have crystals that may be causing chronic infection?
