Military Macaw Stopped talking

My 14 year old macaw stopped talking about 5 days ago.  He had a rather extensive vocabulary.  Barked like the dog when a car came in. Answered the phone ring.  Greeted and dismissed guests.  Now nothing, not even squawking.  Clipped his nails yesterday which causes him to holler and he did so we know he can.

I wish I could tell you this is 'nothing', but you're right to have some concerns.  Chances are this is something simple, like an infection that can be treated with appropriate antibiotics or steroids or whatever your vet feels necessary depending on what the underlying cause is.

You're catching it early, with just one symptom rather than waiting for it to worsen, so there's a lot to be said about that.
 I know how much these magnificent creatures can mean.  I have my in house girls checked every 6 months whether they 'need it' or not and this helps insure that our vet is more likely to respond to my middle of the night calls when necessary.  

Let me know how this goes ok?  Let me know how he's eating, how his droppings are and what the vet says.  

Do you get regular weights on him with a gram scale?
