our degu eye has a small grey kind of cloud on it

Hi,
My husband noticed that one of degu's has a small grey cloud on one of its eyes. It is very difficult to notice but it definately looks different to the other eye.
Will it clear by its self or should I be concerned?

It sounds like a cataract, which will not go away.  In humans they remove them surgically, but I'm sure it would be to risky to try on a degu.  Cataracts are a complication of diabetes (as with humans too), which is brought on by feeding your degu sweet treats.  They cannot produce enough insulin to process it, and the organs start developing problems.  Make sure you aren't giving them fruits or other sweets, and it will help your pet slow the progression of the disease, but it won't go away.
