Mouse tail

Question
My zebra mouse/striped mouse caught her tail in 1 of her toys and kind of skinned half off it, this was late at night so i was going to take her to the vets but then by the morning shed eaten the skinned part of her tail, leaving her with about half a tail which is very  healthy, the tip isnt bleeding or anything, will she now be ok? also she lives with her sister however lately they wont go near each other and if they accidntaly become near each other one chases the other away, the cage is very big so they dont "bump" into each other very frequently but should i seperate them?
Long question i no but Thank you
Emma x

Answer
I have never had zebra mice but on doing some research I have found that their tails are very fragile and are damaged easily. It is therefore common for injuries to occur on their tails.

Mice in general use their tail for balance so you may notice reduced ability in climbing etc. It sounds like she has sorted out the injury herself so I wouldn't expect any problems with it in the future.

Mice are social creatures so I would be hesitant about separating them. However if you think she is trying to seriously harm her as she may be 'wheedling out the weak' to make sure the strongest survive then you should separate her. This behavior is fairly common in males as a way to provide more food/females/territory for the strongest and is natures way for the species survival. I have not seen this behavior in females both fancy and 3/4 wild.

If you do decide to keep them together provide plenty of hiding places.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to ask any more questions.
