New fancy mouse squeeks nearly every time she is touched

Question
I have had one mouse for quite a while now, she is a fawn silky mouse. She was all alone, and I was worried that she was getting lonely, as she was hiding alot. So I bought her a new friend. As with any introduction, there was alot of squeaking and sniffing, but everything went fine. They are now in the same cage together.
My "problem" is that whenever I pick up the new pearl colored mouse, she squeaks at me. She also jumps when she does this and looks at me like "Why did you make me squeak?". It's funny in a way, but I am concerned that perhaps she is in pain in a certain area of her body. She runs just fine in her wheel, even up to an hour at a time! But if the older mouse comes over to play in the wheel the new on squeaks at her and jumps again.
Any advice as to what is going on with "Squeak" (yes, I named it squeak...the fawn is called Ryoko and is the older one)

Thank you

Answer
Dear Danielle,

Although the average pet mouse only squeaks from fear or pain, some mice squeak when they are picked up-- I see these as indignant squeaks, like, "how dare you pick me up like that when I am such a lady!"    One of my recent mice got the nickname Squeakers for this. Try palpitating her when she is out, to see if there are any spots that make her sore; if not, and she doesn't act scared, she's probably fine.

Have lots of fun with your ladies!

squeaks n giggles,

Natasha
